The best Christmas movies on Disney Plus (part 1)

Thanksgiving has come here, which means it is officially Christmas season. After feasting on turkey, pumpkin pie, and mashed potatoes, it is time now to settle back on the couch, and log into your Disney Plus account to see what Christmas movies sit in the giant Disney catalogue.

Here we sift through Disney Plus’ vast offerings and enlist the most worthy movies to watch with a steaming mug of hot cocoa this Chrismas.

Home Alone (1990)

Precocious Kevin McAllister (played by Macaulay Culkin) is left – wait for it! – home alone during the Christmas time, when his family forgets him accidentally when they jet off to Paris. Although initially happy with the freedom, Kevin realizes that a couple of burglars are targeting his home and cue the wacky DIY home security system. Home Alone inspired an entire franchise; however, the original has a lot of heart that we might forget, given the successive sequels’ wacky hijinks and replacement of the OG cast. Therefore, enjoy this one before Disney reboots it.

I’ll Be Home For Chrismas (1998)

I’ll Be Home for Christmas might be the inverse of Home Alone. It stars Jonathan Taylor Thomas as self-centered college student Jake, who doesn’t want to return home for Christmas. When his father promises him a vintage car if he comes home in time for Christmas dinner, he races across the country to get back to upstate New York. Naturally, it is not as easy as taking the next plane ride, Jake ends up hitchhiking across the country. Since it is a Christmas movie, he sheds his selfish ways, but not before getting put through the wringer.

Mickey’s A Chrismas Carol (1983)

The classic tale of Charles Dickens will get retold until the end of time. The most entertaining spins on Ebenezer Scrooge’s tale are the ones that use existing characters to fulfill the hyperbolic characters of A Christmas Carol. The Mickey version has Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge, with Willie the Giant filling in as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Jiminy Cricket playing the Ghost of Christmas Past, and a delightfully kooky Goofy as Jacob Marley.
